Five has been branded “way out of line” by the women’s nutter group, Eaves, for broadcasting a sitcom set in a suburban brothel. Respectable breaks Ofcom guidelines by portraying prostitution as “glamorous” and “risk-free” and should be taken off-air, Eaves have said.A Five representative said the channel took the subject matter “seriously”. Its publicity material describes Respectable as following a group of young women working together, squabbling, chatting and bonding, like any other workforce. Like thousands of brothels throughout Britain, it’s outwardly respectable, it’s twee – and it could be next door to you.
Eaves said it had gathered a petition with 1,500 names. It has written to Five, Ofcom and Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell to ask for the programme to be pulled: Respectable will perpetuate the myth that not only is buying sex acceptable, rather than degrading and exploitative, but that it can be fun and enjoyable for the women involved and add glamour to their lives. A spokeswoman for Five said Respectable is not intended to be as an in-depth investigation of prostitution. It is a comedy, and we would expect it to be viewed as such.
Melon farmers are obviously classing Eaves as a “woman’s nutter group. This is hardly surprising for a web site dedicated to removing any so called ‘censorship’ promoting a porno free for all. Any form of misogyny or exploitation of women and children are viewed as ’fair game’ Heaven forbid anyone may censor their blatant hatred of women. The number on the petition has been rising steadily, now up to 1621 as I write.
This is amazing, it has only been going a few weeks.

Cheers stormy
I’ve put the link on the post
‘Feminists against censorship’ link to ‘melonfarmers’ on their blog.
So I’ve noticed Pippi
Err, (my first visit to their blog today), there seems to be a lot about censorship, but little about feminism (nothing actually!).
A quote from their latest post (petition):
“The proposals could lead to hundreds of thousands of ordinary, innocent people being sent to jail and possibly having their names added to the Sex Offender’s Register just because the government doesn’t like what they choose to look at”
Whilst I know that there are heaps of sickos into violent porn, perhaps the FAC actually guesses correctly? (Scary thought)
I note that one contributor writes for the f-word.
Sorry, but any feminist “in bed” with the m-farmers, has got to be a bit on the crazy side. The track record of the farmers is to attack and troll feminist blogs, and they have an extremely strong anti-woman stance. What the fuck are they doing hanging around with idiots like that?
Faux-feminism.
Sparkle:
RU giving me a sanity test? I just noticed you now put up the petition URL at the bottom of the post. Stormy thought, mmm, I’m sure that wasn’t there before (then got very worried that I was losing it). Then I noticed the wording and punction was exact, aha! my sparkle has added afterward. (I’m) Not crazy at all. No, not. Really. no……..
Ha! I said in my comment (see up) that I was going to put it on post. You crazy Naaaa
dang, I have lost the plot…
In my defence I probably read this thread, read other threads/blogs, came back to this one (remembering the last post to the thread and reading from there), so have to say it’s a memory thing that I don’t auto-recall each and every post. I have the multi-tasking thingy happening..
[...] I have found out from Pippi, via Sparkle*Matrix that that the pro-porn group Feminists Against Censorship now has a blog, and, shockingly, that they link to the porn-apologist site MelonFarmers. At the risk of crushing FAC’s free speech with my awesome power to censor others, I’m going to consider what this means. [...]
The FAC are supporting, and are standing up for, necrophilia, rape, murder and shoving extreme grief back into the faces of the family of murder/rape victims.
How? But supporting moronfarmers, who have put the campaign by Jane Longhurst’s family to have violent internet porn banned, into their “nutters” bin/area.
The mind boggles, no, not even boggles, it does not comprehend the total hatred that these people have for women.
I’m going to Ladyfest next week. FAC and Object are debating and i will probably have to wear ear-plugs for the patriarch mouthpieces. Sheesh in bed with Mr Sogyny. They must have some serious self-esteem issues.
The stupid FACkers (word seen here first at the original and still the best Sparkle blog – by AoM! – insertion of cheesy-smile emoticon here).
I signed the petiton. How’s it been going for stopping the show?
