Lily Allen is not amused that MTV have moved her hit “Smile” to a late-night slot as it contains the word “fuck”
Lily Allen has criticised MTV for banning one of her videos because it contains swearing.
The popular music channel has relocated the promo clip for Allen’s number one hit ‘Smile’ to late-night airing only because it features the word “f**k”.
Allen fumed: “They (MTV) said, ‘We don’t want kids to grow up too quickly,’ but then you have Paris Hilton and the Pussycat Dolls taking their clothes off and gyrating up against womanising men, and that’s acceptable.
“You’re thinking your kids are gonna grow up quicker because they heard the word f**k than from thinking they should be shoving their t**s in people’s faces?”
You said it Lily…
Kudos to Fanny

Good for Lily Allen in putting matters into the right perspective. Oh yes it is okay for sluttish men to leer at women taking their clothes off and all shown at a time when boys can watch such images and learn it is acceptable to sexually degrade women. But girls and boys hearing one swear word is a no no.
But of course it proves MTV do not want ‘kids to grow up too quickly.’ So why then is it acceptable for sexually degrading images of women to be routinely aired at prime time when girls and boys can watch these programmes. You don’t fool me MTV by your hyprocrisy.
Just so long as they’re not shoving those tits into babie’s faces because that’s obscene and inappropriate. That’s all I have to say about it.
This may come across sounding like an MRA anti-woman comment but it’s really a down-with-patriarchy comment, but about the PC Dolls: how many chicks does it take to sing a freakin’ song, for crying out loud?
I didn’t think she was all that until now. Yes, go Lily, keep saying stuff like that as a role model for kids, and this may help a bit.
Same old, same old, constant objectification of women, sexualisation of girls, convicted sex offenders making singles and videos that allude to sex, and violence are all cool, swear words and rude jokes no.
The word ‘Fuck’ is a swear word but the word ‘rape’ is not. I’d much rather be explaining to my children what fucking is than when they ask me what rape means because they have heard the word used on the pre-watershed news.
Reeespect, Sparkle!
My sentiments EXACTLY. I am always astonished when anyone on TV or radio says “ooooh don’t say that word, you cant’ say that word etc. because of the complaints that they get or whatever, however the dialogue or images that surrounds those swearwords is a hundred times more offensive. It’s pathetic and so hypocritical. SWEARING IS THE LEAST OF OUR PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!
Re: the PCD, Cool Aunt and somebody correct me if I’m wrong aswell but the only singer credited with anything (singing not writing I think?!) in the PSD album credits is the lead singer. I think she was an auditionee on American Idol or was found in some reality show. The other girls who appear as the back up (and apparently found in lap dancing clubs) aren’t even credited with singing AT ALL on the album. I’m not sure what money they get at all for being one 5th of this outfit with no name. If that is true that is MESSED UP.
For the record, the UK version of PCD is in the pipelines. The criteria … GLAMOUR MODELS/LAP-DANCERS. I know this because I got talking to a manager on myspace who has been contacted by the American producers to get the ball rolling.
At least Lily has had the guts to say what she said – she is a gobby chik and I love her – we need more women speaking out on how the sexualised images of women and women who’s lifestyles revolve around being sex on legs for men, are actually really bad role models for girls.
The PCD’s started out as a lowly cabaret act in Johnny Depp’s Viper room club I believe – somehow,it became trendy for a lot of the holly wood babes to perform with them – christina ag, carmen electra, gwen stefani, loads more, all considered it an honour to perform with them – the basic personnel of the actual act would change all the time, but the theme did not, and one reason they became popular was due to the connection to johnny depp, hollywood, and the joining in of famous singers, actressess who wanted to jump on the pornette bandwagon.
I wouldn’t want to hear little kids saying “fuck” too early, but does that mean that we have to choose between that and what Lily has pointed out? Feminists have been saying this for ages. Good on lily allen.
Hmmm not allowed to hear “fuck” but allowed to be exposed to ‘pimps’ n ‘hoes’ …very balanced… I wasn’t really a fan of Lily Allen generally but I think she made a good point here. I just hope it’s a real opinion that she’ll stick by and that it wasn’t just her venting because her song isn’t getting as much air time (she has recently complained about itunes because they wouldn’t put her on the homepage of the music store)! Not to be a buzz kill, just used to my hopes being dashed! On a brighter note I really like the name Lily!
Bearing in mind Lily’s dad, a very funny man, Keith Allen, who has never given one hint of being pornified, and who is absolutely bonkers, ( in good way) I think her comments are genuine and she sees thru the bullshit, just like her dad – and she’s just as outspoken as her dad which is good in this case.
yes grace, she needs to keep banging on … and on … and on … and on … and on … and on … i hear a few comments about different fem issues from her but i don’t hear them often enough!!!!
COME ON LILY!!!
I don’t like the word, and the fact that there is other sexist crap on TV doesn’t make it OK. I don’t want my toddler telling me to Fuck off.
How do you explain a word that means sex, hate, ruin?
Wehn you say I’m going to fuck tehm in anger, what does it mean? Why express hate with sex?
Words have meaning, and it’s time we examine it. If you really think that people who say “fuck you” in anger are not thinking about the sexual aspect, you are really naive.
The word is typical domination-through-sex that is the problem with our culture. You get fucked over, you fuck over someone else.
I aint with it, no matter how trendy it is.
SaltyC – I agree, it does have very negative connotations.
Thanks for your comment Sarah. I have chose not to publish it – even though I understand your sentiments re what I suppose is *raunch culture* and the difficulties it creates. However, I don’t blame this on women or call them sluts. Ever.
