Just a word of warning here: this video actually made me flinch.
The National Centre for Domestic Violence reports that the UK experiences 330,000 kitchen cabinet accidents per year. Of course – we know this isn’t strictly true. However, it does serve to fit nicely with other ‘invisible’ incidents of male violence; where disembodied penises, alcohol, gender ambiguous language and now, together with ferocious kitchen cabinets, continue their vicious hostilities against women.
Naturally – this in no way criticises women who for a plethora of reasons are afraid to identify their abuser.
Eww that’s eerie powerful. I wonder how many those tricky “stairs” cause…
Indeed pisaquaririse – one never knows when those vicious ’stairs’ will push you.
According to The F Word the video came via Dollymix where, regrettably, it was claimed that ‘330,000 injuries per year are blamed on kitchen cabinet injuries. This … isn’t true, and most of these women’s injuries are actually caused by domestic violence’.
What is ‘domestic violence’ but another cabinet door? How telling it is that even those who recognise that women don’t disclose the real cause of their injuries shy away from naming men as the perpetrators.
I really like this.
As I was typing this post up I thought just how non-aligned in fact the word ’domestic’ is. So I looked up its meaning
cleaner, home help, help, char, domestic worker
home help, cleaner, maid, au pair, carer, housekeeper
servant, retainer, help
So in an unintentional way they have it right.
I’ve also just read that there is some resistance regarding using the word mutilation in FGM so health workers have adopted the word ’cutting’ making it FGM/C. Why do we need to sanitise men’s violence and brutality, when it is aimed at females?
No wait…
I too hate the term ‘domestic violence’ because just what does this term mean? It means nothing and that is precisely why it is used. A very clever way of hiding male batterers and males who commit these acts against women. Male batterers would be a more appropriate term but I forget ‘not all men are batterers so are women.’ Well in that case ensure when referring to ‘violence against women’ the gender of said perpetrator is always, always put first. Then there will be no disguising just who is responsible for …..violence against women.
As an aside we must not forget that in the US there have been court cases wherein the judge has refused to accept the term rape. So, of course rape does not happen and now it seems female genital mutilation is too strong a word to use. Ah but it is okay and acceptable for women to be routinely called sexually insulting names such as slut, ho’ etc. But there we must protect men’s fragile sensibilities.
Yes Jennifer here’s one of them

Is taking accountability for ones actions that difficult. Funny though, us women have it drummed into us from birth.
